Crane Capacity Classes from 50 to 200 Tonnes

Pick the class by the heaviest lift on the job, then check it against the load chart at the real radius. The table shows what each class is normally used for and what to check on site before booking.

Capacity class Typical jobs Check on site
50 to 75 tonnes Structural steel, setting pumps, chillers and small vessels, pipe rack sections, plant maintenance lifts Ground bearing under the outriggers, overhead lines and pipe racks near the swing path
75 to 100 tonnes Heat exchangers, generator sets, tank sections, precast elements and heavier steel Radius from the crane centre, access road width, outrigger mat sizes
100 to 150 tonnes Large vessels, columns, transformers and module setting during shutdowns Counterweight space, the load chart at the real radius, wind limits on the day
150 to 200 tonnes Heavy modules, tall lifts, shutdown and turnaround work Transport permits and escort, assembly area, ground preparation and crane mats

Capacity falls as the radius grows. A crane rated for 200 tonnes lifts far less at 30 metres from its centre. We size every crane from the load chart at your actual radius, not from the headline tonnage.

How to Choose the Right Crane for Your Lift

Four numbers decide most crane selections. If you have them, we can quote the same day.

Load plus rigging

Add the load, hook block, slings and shackles. The crane must carry the total, not the load alone.

Radius and height

The distance from the crane centre to the load and to the landing point sets the capacity. Boom length sets the height you can reach.

Ground and access

Soft ground, buried services, slopes and narrow gates can rule out a crane that looks right on paper.

Duration and shifts

One lift, a few days or a long project. Duration decides the rental plan and the operator rotation.

Not sure about the radius or the weight? Send a sketch or photo of the lift area and our team will work it out with you. For tower-type work, see tower crane rental.

Crane Types Matched to Your Site

The type depends on the ground, the access road and whether the crane moves between sites. We confirm the type at quotation, based on the fleet available for your dates.

Rough terrain cranes

Built for uneven, off-road ground inside plants, yards and construction sites. They set up quickly and stay on one site. Read more on our rough terrain crane rental page.

All terrain and mobile cranes

Road-going cranes that drive between sites and still handle rough ground. A good fit when the job moves or the site is far from the yard. See the full crane rental fleet.

Comparing the two? Our guide on rough terrain crane vs mobile crane explains when each one wins.

Crane Rental for Aramco and Industrial Sites

Aramco, SABIC and other major operators check the crane and the crew before work starts. We prepare the paperwork in advance so the gate check does not hold up your lift.

  • Third-party inspection certificate for the crane
  • Operator licence and training records
  • Rigger and signalman certificates
  • Lift plan and risk assessment support
  • Insurance and company documents

Final approval always rests with the site's own inspectors. Tell us the site and its requirements early, and we match the documents to them. Need the crew as well? See rigger supply and crane operator supply.

50 to 200 Ton Crane Rental, Frequently Asked Questions

What crane sizes can I rent between 50 and 200 tons?

We rent mobile cranes in the 50 to 200 tonne range. In practice that means four working bands: 50 to 75, 75 to 100, 100 to 150 and 150 to 200 tonnes. Send the load weight and the lifting radius and we confirm which crane fits and whether it is free for your dates.

Does the crane come with an operator?

Yes. Crane rental normally includes a certified operator. Riggers and signalmen can be added to the same order, and we can also supply them separately. See rigger supply and crane operator supply.

Can you supply a crane for an Aramco site?

We prepare the documents Aramco sites ask for before the crane reaches the gate: the inspection certificate, operator and rigger certificates, lift plan and risk assessment support, and company documents. Final acceptance is always decided by the site's own inspectors, so send us the site and its requirements early.

How do I know which tonnage I need?

Add the weight of the load to the weight of the hook block, slings and shackles. Then find the lifting radius, which is the distance from the crane centre to the load and to where it will be set down. The crane's load chart at that radius, not the headline tonnage, decides whether the lift is possible. A 200 tonne crane lifts far less than 200 tonnes when the radius is large.

What should I send to get a quote?

Send the load weight and size, the lifting radius and height, the site location and gate-pass rules, the start date and expected duration, and whether you need riggers or a lift plan. A photo or sketch of the lift area helps.

How long can I rent a crane for?

A single lift, a few days, a month or a full project term. The minimum hire depends on the crane class and the distance it has to travel, so tell us your dates and we quote against them.

Where do you supply cranes?

From our base in Al Khobar we supply the Eastern Province, including Dammam, Dhahran, Jubail, Qatif and Al Ahsa. We also supply cranes to Riyadh, Jeddah and other parts of the Kingdom on request. Larger cranes need transport planning, so give us the site location early.

What is the difference between a rough terrain crane and an all terrain crane?

A rough terrain crane is built for uneven off-road ground and is usually kept on one site. An all terrain crane drives on public roads at higher speed and also handles rough ground, which suits work across several sites. We confirm the type at quotation based on your site and the fleet available for your dates. More detail on the rough terrain crane rental page.
